Easter

Extracts from Easter Posts from my old Blog. Also for a list of ideas check out Easter/Spring  in the Alternative Present Ideas section of this site.

A quick search for alternative Easter ideas revealed that it’s still all about spending money just not on eggs. Instead of huge over packaged disgusting cheap chocolate you can buy a multitude of other things as well now.

Always wanting to cash in on any excuse to get people shopping you can now buy all sorts of Eastery things including kits for everything from making your own bunny mask to an Easter cross stitch book marks!

Honestly are we now rendered incapable of cutting out some card and tying on elastic or whatever the kit contains.

Right that’s it,;I’m now determined to do something different with this whole easter thing. As I’m not the sort of person who is going to go along with things just because that’s what we do and not being attached to any religion I have to consider what it’s all about.

It’s spring, that’s what’s going on, whether religious or not it’s a time of re-birth and new birth. The world is waking up, well here in the Northern hemisphere anyway. The trees are in bud, daffodils out, birds singing and these are things to celebrate.

We’re heading down the make your own chocolate egg route at the moment, with of course, fair trade, organic chocolate. I’ve done this before so already have the moulds; it’s messy, so requires some mental preparation, and time.  When these hand-made monsters appeared tied up with salvaged ribbon they were delighted and seemed immensely pleased that I had gone to the trouble of making them…..yes, big whoop for me!

This is what I want for my children. I want them to appreciate the handmade, the effort, the uniqueness, the time and thought. I don’t need them to fall all over the place with gratitude but to know that these things come with a massive aura of love, care and attention. Goodness only knows what energy the majority of consumer goods carry with them, the blood, sweat and tears of the exploited, that’s what!

What energy are you putting into Easter this year?

Hello! Did you see my post on the Good Chocolate Guide to Australia?? We’ll make some good eggs but I have got some commercially-produced ones for the bairns.

Twins and I made Easter bonnets for school, used cardboard and some stickers and then a load of old STUFF that was lying around. They did enjoy making these hats. I must improve at craft, they enjoy it so much.

Yes I read your post, good stuff. Interestingly here in Greece the whole Easter “stuff” is very low key indeed, hardly anything to alert you to it’s coming. I’m toying with making a half chocolate egg using a real egg as a mould, seems a fiddle though. I think we will be snapping open a bar of chocolate and indulging in other activities here.
